2017 surfing events


In Cape town, South Africa the World Surf League and Surfing South Africa will commence the 2017 Surf Series. This is an event that will bring professional and advanced surfers from all over for a series of challenging surf events to be held on South Africa’s coastal beaches. It will take local surfers and try to make them international professional surfers to participate in the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. The first event will be held April 21-23, then in June on the 9th through the 11th, then the finale will run from June 14th through the 18th where a cash prize of $75,000 will be awarded this event will feature 150 of the world’s best male and female surfers according to surfingsouthafrica.co.za. These events will also showcase surfing clinics and will invite local communities that are less fortunate to learn about surfing and marine life to promote a healthy lifestyle and awareness to its natural surroundings. On Saturday, May, 13th is the 4th Annual King of the Hill Surf Fest, in Neptune Beach, FL the event is presented by Neptune Baptist Church. The event brings together surfers of all skill levels, along with sponsors like Wave Masters and the Florida Surfing Association the event is sure to please. This years event will have a few new divisions including the Open Pro, Women Pro and Longboard Pro. The contest will have give aways and prizes such as t-shirts, posters etc. and winners will receive cash prizes for the Open Pro division1st place in the amount of $1,000, 2nd $500, 3rd is $250 and 4th is $100 all winners will receive a trophy as well. The Open Longboard Pro Event will have a winners 1st place $500, 2nd $250 and 3rd $175 plus a trophy same goes for the Women’s Pro Event. The fee to enter the contest is $25 for amateur division, $50 for the Open Pro event and $35 for the Women’s Pro Event. On May 13th not only will it be the Ling of the Hill Surf Fest they will also have the Surf Fishing Tourney starting at 7am, adults are $35 and juniors are $15 dollars for the fishing part of the day.


On May 6th & 7th is the 34th Annual WaveMasters Surfing Event, it will be held in Jacksonville, FL at Jax Beach. This annual event always has a nice crowd turnout with plenty of visitors, spectators and competitors. The surfing competitiors come from various surfing skill levels; from beginners to professional to semi-retired surfers. The competition is judged by trained judges there will be media coverage and lots of family fun as well. The surfing competition will give away thousands of dollars in cash, prizes and wood trophies, the beach raffle money will benefit those youths in need in our community and to benefit environmental charities according to the Florida Surfing Association website floridasurfing.org. The FSA holds a few surfing competitions throughout the year and encourages the surfing lifestyle for all kids even those with special needs like autism and physical inhibitions. This is the latest within the surfing community the trend is where both pet and owners can surf together, there is even a social club for these unique owner and pet duos. The dogs are wearing life vest while in the water and are catching the waves just the same as their owners. These special surf clubs or organizations are throughout the country there is one in southern CA called So Cal Surf Dogs and it is free to join. The concept behind the clubs are to learn to surf together with your companion, dogs can surf solo or with their owner. Additionally surfers and their pets get together to exchange surfing tips, knowledge and experiences. The clubs in CA even have dog surfing championship competitions running a few years now. On Sunday Sept. 10th is the 12th Annual Surf Dog Surf-A-Thon Surfing Competition, owners can also get surfing lessons for their dogs, lessons run 70 minutes and are $45 dollars they include the paddle board, vest for both dog and owner and the instruction guidance you will need to get your pup surfing like a pro.
