On October 5-7 is the U.S. Open King Mackerel Tournament in Southport, NC at the Southport Marina. This fishing tournament has been around for decades and continues growing strong annually, this is one of the biggest Kingfish competitions on the US easter coast. It has been reported that approximately 400 plus boats participate in the fishing spectacular. The Captain’s meeting will be on Friday Oct. 5th at 7:00pm all anglers should attend as any changes to rules would be relayed there and goody bags will be given at the door while supplies last. According to the website usopenkmt.com/rules, the only eligible species for this tournament is King Mackerel, anglers are allowed up to six fishing lines per boat. All boats must check in and there are several locations at which to do that and there are two check out locations as well. At the tournament there will be a certified marine biologist to determine the fish certification and weight. After the competition the fish become the property of the presenters and this years Grand Prize is $25,000, here are some of this years sponsors Southport Marina, Garmin, Sea Tow and others.
